I patched my pimple but it’s still there. What gives?

First, let’s take a look at what kind of pimple you have.

If you have a deep rooted, cyst our pustule drug-free, hydrocolloid acne patches may not be your best match.

Hydrocolloid works best on surface pimples and whiteheads by drawing fluids to the patch. It effectively sucks out oil, pus and sebum from the spot, making pimples calmer and flatter.

But the patch can only do this if the pimple itself is close to the surface of the skin. The further down the pimple is, the less chance the patch has of reaching it.

Another important point to remember is to not remove your patch too early. A good sign of when it’s ready to remove is when your patch has turned white or opaque.

Patch still looking clear? It’s too early to take it off.

That said, if your pimple doesn’t have a whitehead, hydrocolloid patches can still be helpful. Our Perfect Pimple Patch combines hydrocolloid with a polyurethane barrier to protect pimples from contact with everyday pollutants that can aggravate your skin.

Why Isn’t The Patch Staying On?

Our Perfect Pimple Patch is super sticky, but even so, there are a few things you can do to help stay patched for as long as possible.

One of the easiest things is to apply it to clean skin, before the rest of your skincare routine. For even better results, we recommend using a pH 5.5 cleanser that not only creates the optimal conditions for patching, but also gives your skin the perfect pH balance and protection. We’re big fans of Tosowoong’s cult favourite Enzyme Powder Wash.

Can I use pimple patches with makeup?

You sure can. If you’re a makeup lover, we’ve found two ways to use our patches.

Option One: To *actively* treat pimples, apply a patch to dry skin after cleansing and do your makeup over the top of your patch.

Patch still looking clear? It’s too early to take it off.

Your patch will go to work sucking up any pus in your whitehead during the day.

Option Two: To best cover big, lumpy acne completely (and make your patch the least visible), apply your #makeup first and then a patch over the top.⠀

The patch itself will be less effective at clearing acne this way, *but* it will blend the most seamlessly into your skin so that the bump of your pimple can’t be seen. This method also covers redness very well even without concealer.
