While it might not have been the Hot Girl Summer we were all hoping for here in Aus, the weather has still warmed up and for those of us with oily or acne prone skin it might be time to fine tune our routine. When the temperature rises and the humidity kicks in (looking at you QLD), it can spell disaster for those of us with oily skin. Worrying about greasy skin or extra breakouts is not on our holiday To Do list, so let’s put the spotlight on some of our Summer Skincare Tips for Oily/Acne Prone Skin. That way we can all kick back, unwind and have a margarita… (even if it is indoors…cheers La Nina)
Just because our skin is oily doesn’t mean we need to overdo it with the cleanser! Twice a day is all you need. If you over cleanse your face you can end up damaging the skin barrier, causing irritation and redness, or end up producing more sebum which in turn leads to more breakouts. Not a mood.
For your morning routine start with a gentle powder cleanser. Our Subi Brightening Foam Powder Cleanser has you covered. It’s lightweight, ultra-versatile and perfect for everyday use. Formulated with antioxidant rich Centella Asiatica, nourishing ceramides and brightening liquorice extract your skin will be super clean, bright, and smooth. If you’re wanting to add a mild exfoliant into your routine, simply add less water to your face/hands and this powder cleanser does the rest.
At night we recommend doing a double cleanse to ensure that you are going to bed with the cleanest skin possible. Our Subi Bare Skin Balm is a best seller for a reason. It’s 100% cruelty free formulation is filled with star ingredients like Lemon Myrtle Leaf, Sea Buckthorn Oil and Vitamin E which gently remove the oil and excess sebum that has built up throughout the day. It’s also the perfect time to give yourself a facial massage! Get that lymphatic drainage going and remove the stresses from the day….ahh bliss.
Meet your new Summertime (and all year round!) bestie - the Subi Holo Dream Pore Minimising Mask. This dreamy girl does it all – detoxifying, skin brightening, pore tightening and texture refining. This mask is formulated with Australia Kakadu Plum, Ceramides, Sodium Hyaluronate and Kaolin and is perfect for before bed or before your Saturday night makeup. Clay masks are especially great in Summer as they draw out impurities from the skin and soak up excess oil.
Time to swap up your toners and ampoules! One of the reasons people love K-Beauty is because the routines are so flexible. You can tailor your routine to your skins current needs. There are so many amazing toners/serums/ampoules on the market for oily skin - take advantage of this! Have some fun, try new things and swap it up as your skin needs.
Another great option is to lighten up your moisturiser – whether you swap to a lightweight cream or even a mist spray it’s important that you don’t skip your moisturiser completely! Even though you might be tempted to starve your skin of moisture it will only lead to increased oil production, so it’s best to choose a lightweight moisturiser that won’t feel too heavy on the skin.
This is also a good time to remind everyone that just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you should skip the sunscreen! Choose a lightweight, non-sticky sunscreen for your morning routine. Swap out your foundation for a lightweight BB cream (we love the Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream) then ensure you are double cleansing at night before bed to remove the SPF and makeup left over from the day. While we are on the topic of SPF and UV we can’t miss an opportunity to remind everyone to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP. It’s so important that you protect yourself from UV rays, especially in Australia. We are known for our harsh UV and high rates of skin cancer. Always pop a hat, shirt and pair of sunnies in your bag when you’re heading outside – your skin will thank you, both now and in the future!
Just add water. It’s a summer must (and also a GREAT tv show…anyone??) Staying hydrated is super important during these summer months, after all, beauty starts from the inside. Keep your water bottle on you throughout the day and get sipping, especially if you are drinking coffee. It’s also important to shower after you’ve been sweating – whether it’s from a tough session at Barry’s Bootcamp or just from the packed commute home from work. Jump in the shower and wash off the sweat. Your skin (and your partner) will appreciate it.
If you have active breakouts then Subi Perfect Pimple Patches are the answer. Perfect is in the name for a reason. These almost invisible stickers are made of hydrocolloid which speeds up healing and prevents scarring. These hydrocolloid patches bring out the infection while keeping the spot covered and protected from dirt (and fingers). Don’t worry about sweating these ones off in the summer heat, we’ve worn them to Hot Yoga before and they survived the 40 degree room. These stickers mean absolute business.
