Today we’re looking at what causes breakouts, the easy tips you can follow to help get rid of them, as well as the best K-Beauty for pimples.
Acne occurs when pores clog with dead skin cells and sebum. When the clog occurs near the top layers of the skin, whiteheads or blackheads form. Deeper clogs cause pimples and even cysts.
Acne and pimples can be stubborn, so a multi-pronged attack is best.
Removing excess oil from your face can help reduce blemishes by preventing the build-up of dirt and oil in the skin. You can do this by using skincare products that are designed to correct the balance of oil and moisture in the skin.
Washing twice daily is necessary for blemish-prone skin types, but while you’re at it, take a look at the cleanser you’re using. An antibacterial and/or pH balanced cleanser is best, as these work to restore the skin’s barrier and prevent bacteria from breeding, which helps control breakouts.
When dealing with any type of acne, it is best to start your routine with a two-step cleanse. This is a key part of the Korean Beauty routine as it ensures that you properly cleanse your face, remove any makeup and sunscreen and prepare the skin to be treated with the next layers in skincare.
The first cleanser – the oil based cleanser – will break down any dirt, makeup and sunscreen. The second cleanser – the foaming cleanser – will remove everything else.
Don’t be tempted to think you can scrub blemishes or buildup away; washing your face too vigorously or frequently will only irritate the skin even further. Use gentle cleansers, and keep exfoliation to a minimum; once or twice a week is plenty.
Touching your face and picking at pimples are two big no-nos when dealing with acne – not only are you introducing potential new triggers and dirt, you also risk spreading the infection.
If you’re tempted to pick apply a pimple patch to cover the entire blemish. Not only will this help in resisting the urge to pick, it also cures the spot as quickly as possible. Pimple patches have the additional added benefit of minimising scarring.
