If you’re like us, one of the first things you want to do after a long day is take off your face.

Yes, you read that right.

There’s nothing quite like washing off the grime that builds up after a hard day’s work (whether you’re working from home or not), feeling like you’ve hit the reset button and are ready to enjoy your night ahead.

We love a clean face, but not at the expense of feeling way dried out.

That’s why we’re big fans of double cleansing.

What Is Double Cleansing?

The double cleanse is staple of a typical K-Beauty routine. If you’ve ever felt like your face isn’t clean no matter how hard you scrub, double cleansing is the answer.

As you might have guessed from the name, “double cleansing” involves using two different cleansers (one oil based, one water based) to give you clean and hydrated skin. It’s the perfect foundation for the rest of your skincare routine because if your face isn’t clean – really clean – anything you do next won’t be effective.

Step 1 – Oil Based Cleanser

Double cleansing starts with an oil based cleanser applied to dry skin, working to remove oil based impurities like sebum, sunscreen and makeup.

It doesn’t sound like it works but it does – nothing gets rid of oil like other oils! Oil based cleansers like our Bare Skin Balm gently dissolve the oils in makeup, sunscreen and grime.

If you feel like there’s a thin oily film on your skin after this step, don’t worry. This is where the second double cleansing step comes in.

Step 2 – Water Based Cleanser

Once you’ve finished with your first cleanser, a water based foam or cream cleanser is perfect for getting rid of anything else that’s still on your face.

If you’re using a single cleanser, it’s probably going to be water based. Some cleansing is better than none, but double cleansing is better than everything!

What Results Will You Notice From Double Cleansing?

The benefit of double cleansing is that your first cleanse will break down any makeup, remove dirt and excess oils from the day and clean your skin. The second cleanser will address your particular skin type or concern and will have ingredients to hydrate, boost your barrier, exfoliate and treat acne.

You’ll notice skin that is smoother, softer, cleaner and more hydrated. You’ll also notice less irritation as you won’t need cleansing wipes, devices or pads to get your skin clean.
